Gedma Estrada learned early on that she had a passion for strategic thinking and creative processes. She focused that passion into marketing and hospitality management.

A native of Miami, Gedma was born to Nicaraguan parents who immigrated in their teens. Their hard work and entrepreneurial spirit instilled a thirst for business in Gedma.

In addition to FIU’s academic rankings, a big factor in Gedma’s decision to become a Panther was the ranking and quality of FIU’s chapter of Future Business Leaders of America – Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL). She had been active in the organization during high school. While at FIU, Gedma held multiple leadership roles in the organization, including FIU chapter president. Most recently, as Florida PBL state president, she led the chapter to a third place finish in a national competition.

A passion for viniculture also drove Gedma to study hospitality management, particularly beverage management. A study abroad program in Rioja, Spain gave her the desire to learn more about the wine industry. One of the areas Gedma wants to specialize in is the transportation of beverages. Eventually she would like to open a bar or lounge that specializes in beer and wine education.

Following a summer internship in 2014, Gedma received a full-time offer as a sales executive at third-party logistics firm C.H. Robinson and will start in May at the firm’s Miami office. There she will focus on prospecting, researching and qualifying potential customers to identify inefficiencies and provide solutions to improve their overall supply chain.
