Julian Ramelow

Fall 2023 Outstanding Graduate

Degree: Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences

College: Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine

As a teenage beekeeper in his native country Germany, Julian Ramelow was fascinated by the intricate life cycle of bees. This sparked a keen interest in biology, eventually leading him to pursue a Ph.D.

During his doctoral research, Julian focused on identifying a novel vaccine target against malaria, a potentially fatal disease that afflicts more than 200 million people each year worldwide. His dedication resulted in seven publications, contributing valuable insights to the scientific community.

Julian is the first in his family to graduate from college, and he wasted no time earning his degrees. Driven to achieve, he completed his bachelor’s in biology at Nova Southeastern University in only two-and-a-half years and his doctorate at FIU in four years. He attributes his unwavering determination to his father, a former World Cup soccer player for the German national team, who inspired him to strive for excellence.

Julian’s ultimate ambition is to become the director of a top pharmaceutical company, where he can help drive the development of new drugs and treatments to improve health care.
