Catherin Meza
Degree: Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance
College: Communication, Architecture + The Arts
Catherin Meza gave careful thought to her major during her junior year at the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts. While taking courses in Music Education and Vocal Performance, she ultimately decided that Vocal Performance was her calling. She credits Associate Professor of Vocal Performance and FIU Opera Theater Director Robert Dundas for giving her various opportunities to explore vocal performance which led to her decision.
Throughout her time in the program, Catherin was very involved in FIU’s music community, helping to create and facilitate Open Mic sessions on campus. While continuing to develop her vocal skills, she was invited to many events, both domestically and internationally. For her senior year spring break, she participated in a week-long intensive of music masterclasses with the globally renowned Santa Fe Opera and performed a concert with the Young Voices of Santa Fe Opera group. She even sang a solo by the British composer Benjamin Britten.
In Spring 2023, Catherin was among a group of School of Music students that participated in the Brunetti Festival in Colmenar de Oreja, Spain. While there, she was also in concerts in San Lorenzo and Ávila.
Catherin is also a streaming artist, and her music can be found on all platforms including Spotify and Apple Music. As she continues to grow as an artist and performer, she will remain at FIU as a Graduate Assistant in the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts while pursuing her master's degree.
