Ashley Weathers

Degree: Bachelor of Arts, Economics and International Relations

College: Steven J. Green School of International & Public Affairs

Throughout her time at FIU, Ashley Weathers worked two jobs to support herself while juggling a double major in economics and international relations. But her busy schedule didn’t stop her from taking on a number of leadership positions on campus, most notably leading FIU’s Model UN team to a #3 ranking as president and head delegate this year.

Ashley joined Model UN as a freshman, attending 12 conferences over four years and leading three committees at FIU’s Model UN conference for middle and high school students. Focusing on topics like the Vietnam War, the autonomy of Hong Kong and the Qatar Gulf crisis enabled Ashley to develop her skills in diplomacy and strategic thinking. During the pandemic, she served as a Virtual MUN mentor for Best Delegate, which organizes Model UN conferences around the world.

Not limiting herself to just one activity, Ashley also served as campus director of the inaugural cohort of FIU Millennium Fellows, where she led a team of 18 students on projects to advance the UN’s sustainable development goals. Her own project was focused on increasing financial literacy on college campuses, a topic she is passionate about given her own struggles as a student.

Ashley also found time to serve as a youth ambassador for the World Literacy Foundation and intern with NBC Universal during the Democratic Presidential Debate. She was a member of the inaugural cohort of Global Learning Student Fellows, where she researched the economic development of international border cities.

Currently working as a diplomacy fellow with Best Delegate, Ashley will return to FIU’s Model UN team as program director after graduation and plans to pursue her master’s degree in international relations and economics.
