“Holy Coley.” That is how FIU’s star basketball player, Jerica Coley, is known.
With 3,107 career points, she is FIU’s all-time leading scorer. She is fifth on the NCAA’s Division I women’s career scoring list and is a two-time national scoring champion. She was named the nation’s leading scorer for the 2013-2014 season, averaging 29.5 points-per-game, and the 2012-13 season, with 26.3 points-per-game.
She is a three-time Associated Press All-American honoree and finished her career on a 63-game streak scoring in double figures, dating back to the third game of her junior year. Jerica scored a career-high and school-record 47 points twice last season, while adding two more 40-plus point outings. She was the only player in Conference USA to garner 900-plus points, and her 972 points last year was the third-most in a single season in NCAA history.
Jerica was tabbed First-Team WBCA All-Region, First-Team All-Conference, C-USA All-Academic, Third-Team Capital One All-American, Third-Team College Spots Madness High Major and was a Senior CLASS (community, classroom, character, competition) Award finalist by the end of the 2013-14 season. She was also a Nancy Lieberman Award finalist which is given to the nation’s best point guard in the country.
Her achievements go beyond the court. Despite a heavy travel and practice schedule, she maintained above a 3.3 GPA. Under the mentorship of her professors, Susan Himburg, Tania Rivera, Ayssa Roza and Marieva Bastien, Jerica was also accepted into FIU’s Dietetics and Nutrition Coordinated Program. After graduation she will be eligible to sit for the exam to become a registered dietitian.
After graduation, Jerica will pursue her master’s degree in nutrition at FIU.
