Henderson Goh

Degree: Master of Science Hospitality & Tourism Management

College: Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management

Sergeant Henderson Goh is a leader on the job, in the classroom, and in his community. He has been serving the United States as an active-duty U.S. Army soldier, while studying full-time online in Honolulu, Hawaii. This fall, the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management student graduates with a 3.87 GPA and a Master of Science in Hospitality Management with a specialty in Revenue Management.

Originally from Malaysia and Singapore, Sgt. Goh knew he wanted to serve his new homeland since he was 18 years old. He is currently a Patient Administration Sergeant. Since joining the military more than four years ago, Sgt. Goh has been decorated with several medals and ribbons, including the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, three Certificates of Achievement, the Driver’s Badge, and the Sharpshooter Marksmanship Badge.

Sgt. Goh says he chose FIU Online and the Chaplin School after doing research and learning that FIU supports soldiers and veterans. He says FIU has been supportive considering he has to move around a lot and that he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and adjustment disorder from his years in service. In addition to his career and schoolwork, Sgt. Goh gives back to his local community. To date, he has volunteered more than 350 hours at his church and other charitable organizations that help the underprivileged.

Sgt. Goh is married and has two cats. He hopes to inspire other students to be the best they can be. After graduation, he will continue serving in the U.S. Army, and in January 2023, he will start his online Doctoral Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Tourism Management at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. He hopes to be a professor one day, maybe even at FIU.
