Daniel Gonzalez
Degree: Bachelor of Science in Nursing
College/School: Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences
Daniel Gonzalez is what you might call a “triple threat.” Having earned degrees in psychology and political science from FIU, Daniel is now graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the RN-to-BSN program at the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health Sciences.
This change in career direction came about when his grandmother was diagnosed with leukemia and Daniel took on a caregiver role. One night, Daniel noticed something was wrong and alerted staff. The nurse commended his abilities to act fast and suggested a career in nursing. At that moment, he realized his calling was to advocate for patients overwhelmed by their medical circumstances.
While transforming his future with a nursing degree, Daniel also helped transform communications at Memorial Hospital Miramar. Seeing a need for more effective staff communication, Daniel created a template that could be adapted across practice areas. What began as a practicum project became a three-month pilot program, which will eventually be adopted network-wide by the Memorial Healthcare System.
Daniel’s sights are now set on two more FIU degrees, an MBA and a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Mental Health, to combine clinical knowledge with a business perspective for delivering better patient care at lower costs.
