Anabel Mendt, 25, is the embodiment of a global citizen.

Born to German parents in Venezuela, Anabel is fluent in Spanish, English and German. In her early childhood, she lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for four years and then returned to Venezuela. After graduating with a degree in architecture from the Central University of Venezuela in 2012, she traded violence-ridden Caracas for Miami to begin a new life and work on her master’s degree in architecture at FIU.

While at FIU, Anabel studied abroad in Tokyo, Japan. She was a delegate for the Harvard World United Nations in The Hague, Netherlands and Taipei, Taiwan, where she competed against students from top-tier universities on international diplomacy and crisis resolution.

As part of an internship with Moss Architecture + Design Group’s, she led the design team for submission to the international competition for the new World Health Organization headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Anabel now works as a teaching assistant at FIU’s School of Architecture. Upon graduation, she looks forward to landing a position with one of Miami’s leading architecture firms.
