Pedro Delgado

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice

College/School: Steven J. Green School of International & Public Affairs

Pedro Delgado came to FIU with one major goal: to become a leader.

Originally from Cuba, Pedro and his family arrived in Miami when he was 10 years old. His parents worked tirelessly to reach economic stability. The go-getter mentality and hardworking attitude he saw in them inspired him to dedicate himself to serving his community and his country.

As a freshman, Pedro joined the ROTC program and set out to distinguish himself as a hard worker and top performer. He also took a job at Cold Stone Creamery to help pay for his studies and was quickly promoted to supervisor.

By the end of his freshman year, Pedro earned a full-ride scholarship through ROTC by maintaining a high GPA, demonstrating campus involvement and showing exceptional performance in ROTC and its demanding physical challenges.

Through ROTC, he traveled to Estonia for a month to learn about military efforts in the country and to conduct humanitarian work, helping build and maintain infrastructure for people with special needs and disabilities.

He also attended the U.S. Army’s Air Assault school – a unique and coveted opportunity.

At FIU, he joined Phi Gamma Delta and got involved in the Veteran and Military Affairs Office, helping organize events to raise awareness about suicide prevention.

After graduation, he will be joining the army as an artillery officer, where he will continue to serve and lead others in service.
