Chunfei Li

Degree: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering

College/School: College of Engineering and Computing

When Chunfei Li was 20 years old, her great grandfather, who suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease, passed away. At the time Chunfei was studying applied mathematics in China, her home country. She earned her bachelor’s degree and decided to pursue graduate studies in the United States, determined to learn more about the disease.

In 2012, Chunfei came to FIU to pursue her master’s degree. In 2014, she became an electrical engineering doctoral student, where she worked to improve early detection of Alzheimer’s Disease. Her research focused on the application of imaging processing techniques for early diagnosis and to assess the progression of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Over the past four years, Chunfei has published six journal articles (three of them as the first author) and five conference papers. Chunfei also collaborated with the team from Wien Center for Memory Disorders and Alzheimer’s Disease at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

After graduation, Chunfei will move to New York to work as a research assistant for Facebook. Chunfei previously interned as a software engineer at Facebook in 2017. She also held an internship as a data scientist at Rokk3r Labs in 2016. Chunfei says her long-term goal is to continue doing research on Alzheimer’s Disease and in other medical fields.
