Nykeema Radway

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Communication

College/School: College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts

As a public relations major, Nykeema Radway has learned firsthand the importance of clear communication. The Bright Futures scholar wasn’t shy about joining clubs on campus, and soon learned it would help her find her voice. Joining the service organization, SISTERS: Students Incorporating Service to Encourage Real Success, she helped increase participation in volunteer events and doubled the club’s membership. Through her involvement with other organizations, she was eventually led to Black Student Union, where she would serve as membership coordinator, vice president and then president.

In this role, she grew BSU, held tough discussions with university police and pushed for more community meetings to address improving relationships between students and police. BSU did the same for university administrators at all levels and, as a result, created a better community for all FIU students.

Nykeema’s leadership exemplifies the responsibility she feels for making the world a better place for everyone. As a leader on campus, Nykeema spoke at several university-wide events, including a vigil following the death of Alton Sterling, who was shot by police, and a town hall about violence in our nation.

Nykeema is no stranger to hard work, working three jobs at once during her sophomore year and completing her degree in four years. She hopes to work at a public relations agency in Miami upon graduation.
