Nicolas Wulff

Degree: Bachelor’s in Political Science and Minor in Economics

College/School: Steven J. Green College of International and Public Affairs

Nicolas Wulff and his twin brother, Esteban, were born in Colombia. At age five they moved to the U.S. to join their mother, who had left Colombia because of economic hardship.

Nicolas’ mother and his uncle Fernando pushed him to work hard and earn a scholarship for college. Nicolas dedicated himself to school and achieved his goal. Unfortunately, his scholarship was rescinded. Despite being a stellar student, Nicolas was undocumented, and therefore ineligible for any form of financial aid.

Nicolas soon learned he had a half sister in Germany. She sent Nicolas an inheritance from their late father, to help make his college dream a reality. After graduating from Felix Varela Senior High School, Nicolas attended Miami Dade College, where he and Esteban met other undocumented students like themselves.

At FIU, the Wulff brothers worked to raise awareness about the challenges undocumented students face. They organized clinics to help students determine if they were eligible for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).  They participated in discussions with White House officials and with state legislators. Their hard work paid off – the Florida legislature passed a law allowing DACA students to pay in-state tuition.

While in school, Nicolas obtained an internship in the office of former Congressman Joe Garcia through the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI). He also worked at an immigration law firm and has been offered a full-time position.

After graduation, Nicolas hopes to obtain a fellowship in Washington, D.C. and later a master’s degree in economics.
