John Marin

Commencement: Spring 2015, Ceremony 2

Degree: Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance

Graduate of: College of Business

John Marin has a passion for finance.

A job at Mercantil Commercebank and membership in the Phoenician Investment Fund, a student group committed to building financial skills, cemented that passion. His path to Wall Street began when he became one of 125 students selected out of 1,000 applicants for a summer program at Goldman Sachs in New York.

John’s resume caught the eye of the late R. Kirk Landon, business leader and benefactor of the Landon Undergraduate School, who mentored him, offering career guidance and urging him to do more for the community and fellow students at FIU. He also drew the attention of J.P. Morgan, which offered him a summer internship and later named him the firm’s first Campus Ambassador at FIU.

In his senior year, John sought to widen the FIU-Wall Street connection. He served as Mr. FIU Business, building connections and showcasing FIU’s students.  During his fall 2014 presidency of the Phoenician fund, he led interview, networking, and security analysis workshops to help students break into Wall Street. As a result, 17 students were selected for Wall Street internships for the summer of 2015, and another five members found full time Wall Street jobs.

After graduation, John will begin his career as an analyst in the Corporate & Investment Bank at J.P. Morgan in New York City. His goal: to pay it forward, engaging FIU students who want to work in New York and building FIU’s presence.
