Alexandra Griffin

Commencement: Spring 2015, Ceremony 4

Degree: Master of Science in Athletic Training

Graduate of: Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences

Master of Science in Athletic Training graduate Alexandra Griffin is preparing to make FIU history. She is exceeding expectations and creating new possibilities as the first female student from the Athletic Training Program headed to the National Football League (NFL). She has been hired by the New York Jets’ athletic training staff for a coveted internship position this summer. Alexandra is also a candidate for a female athletic training scholarship under a new NFL initiative in which all 32 teams participate.

Her accomplishments are not surprising as Alexandra has been a frontrunner since coming to FIU from her hometown of Richmond, Virginia. In November 2013, she was recognized by the Athletic Training Program as student of the month for her remarkable work ethic, support to others and enthusiasm towards the profession. She was nominated by her former clinical supervisor Elise Carlson who said of Alexandra, “There is not a day that she does not show up with a smile on her face ready to learn and work.”

Alexandra’s dream since the eighth grade was to work for the NFL. Now, she is setting a precedent that could help open doors for more female athletic training students in the future.
