Arrival on Campus
Graduates and guests should arrive one hour prior to the beginning of the ceremony. We anticipate that about 4,000 guests will attend each ceremony.
Parking
Parking for graduates and their guests will be available in the Panther Garage and in Lot 9, which is located on the west side of the Modesto Maidique (formerly University Park) Campus. Handicapped parking near the U.S. Century Bank Arena will be available for authorized license plates and permits. Please follow the signs posted and the directions of campus safety officers.
Ticket Will Call
Students who wish to use “Ticket Will Call” must order their pass and guest tickets in advance online, and present their photo ID and a printed copy of the online order confirmation, in order to claim the Commencement pass and guest tickets. “Ticket Will Call” will be available one hour prior to the event for students who have arranged to pick up tickets on the day of the ceremony.
Entry to the U.S. Century Bank Arena
The doors will open one hour prior to the ceremony. Fire Marshall regulations require every guest, including children of all ages, to have a ticket. No one will be admitted into the arena without a ticket. Graduates will need their Commencement pass to enter the U.S. Century Bank Arena.
Please note that the doors to the arena will be closed briefly for organizational purposes at the beginning of the ceremony. After the ceremony has started, we will reopen the doors and immediately seat graduates and ticketed guests.
Graduate Seating
There is no rehearsal before the ceremony. Graduates will not march into the Arena. Candidates should enter through the southwest entrance of the U.S. Century Bank Arena and report to their appropriate seating sections when they arrive. Graduates will sit in the assigned sections for their college or school, on the main floor of the Arena. Signage will be posted at the entrances to the Arena identifying the location for the candidates’ schools and colleges. Parents and guests may wish to sit in the section closest to the location of their candidate. Guests will not be permitted into the candidate seating area. Graduates and guests are requested to remain seated for the duration of the ceremony.
Graduates will exit through the northwest and southwest exits of the Arena. Guests will exit through the northeast and southeast exits. Please agree before the ceremony where you will meet your guests, outside of the Arena, at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Seating within the College/Schools on the floor will be as follows:
Specialist degree candidates
Master’s degree candidates
Bachelor’s degree Honor Society candidates
Bachelor’s degree candidates
Doctoral Candidates
Doctoral candidates participate in the processional by marching with the Platform Party and Faculty. Upon arrival to the Arena, candidates should enter through the southwest entrance and report to room 122. Candidates will be seated next to their major professors during the ceremony and will be hooded on stage individually prior to the granting of their degrees.
Please return the Commencement Confirmation Form to confirm your attendance. Additional information regarding your participation will be forthcoming from the Office of Graduate Studies.
Guest Seating
Guest seating will be provided for complete parties on a first-come, first -served basis. Each row must be filled entirely, and no empty seats will be allowed.
Special Needs
If you or your guests need special assistance, please contact the FIU Disability Resource Center at 305-348-3532 before the event. Individuals who require special assistance should enter on the east side of the U.S. Century Bank Arena.
Families are encouraged to drive guests who cannot walk long distances to the main entrance of the Arena before parking.
In the case of an injury or illness, please contact any volunteer inside the event venue.
Photography
As you walk to the stage to receive your facsimile diploma, you will need to present your Commencement pass to the usher. As your name is called and you walk across the stage, you will pose for a photograph with the FIU President. Then you will proceed to the end of the stage for a cap-and-gown photograph.
You may have an additional cap-and-gown photograph taken before or after the ceremony by Bob Knight Photos. Photographers will be located at several sites outside of the arena.
Complimentary proofs of the photos will be mailed and/or e-mailed to the address you list on the back of the Commencement pass (which you received with your guest tickets). Additional information regarding Bob Knight Photos will be available when you pick up your Commencement pass and guest tickets. Please remember to complete the back of the Commencement pass prior to the ceremony. This information will enable the photographers to send you the complimentary proofs.
The use of personal cameras and video equipment will be allowed as long as they do not obstruct the views of other guests. Please be considerate of others in the audience.

Public Safety
Public Safety personnel will be monitoring different posts in and around the arena and providing overall security and traffic direction. In the event of an emergency, please contact a Public Safety aide or call 305-348-2626.
Alumni Association GRAD BASH
Today is all about YOU so let the party begin! Celebrate with your Alumni Association at GRAD BASH, following each commencement ceremony. Grad Bash is located under the large tent outside of the U.S. Century Bank Arena. You and your family are invited to enjoy free food and beverages.
